How enriched product data in Syndigo reaches the storefront and the page

Enriching a product record inside Syndigo's Content Experience Hub (CXH) doesn't automatically put that content on a retailer's product page. Between "enriched in CXH" and "visible on the retail partner's site" sits a specific handoff: linking the product to a recipient, publishing it to a target market, and waiting for that recipient's own subscription to pull it into their commerce platform. This guide walks through that handoff for manufacturers and distributors, where it commonly breaks, and how to confirm content actually landed on the page rather than just inside CXH.

Where enriched data lives before it ever leaves Syndigo

Product records in CXH are built from attributes, each tied to an internal attribute ID (GUID). Most teams don't push data using Syndigo's raw attribute IDs directly. Instead, a Customer Vocabulary maps your own attribute names, e.g. a GTIN or a warranty-period field, to Syndigo's internal attribute IDs, so your PIM or ERP can send simple string field names and CXH's import endpoint resolves them internally. (The older template-based import path uses a similar aliasing layer, Distribution Templates.) This mapping layer is where a lot of "the data looks right in our system but wrong at Syndigo" issues start: a vocabulary mapping that's slightly off routes your value to the wrong attribute or drops it entirely.

Attribute types matter here too: simple, multi-value, container, and complex attributes are all supported, but complex and container attributes are treated holistically. If you resend a complex attribute with only part of its data, the API replaces the whole attribute rather than merging it, meaning a partial re-submission can silently overwrite previously complete data.

The three-step handoff: link, publish, subscribe

Getting a product from "enriched" to "live on a retailer's page" is an explicit, three-part sequence in CXH, not a side effect of editing the record:

  1. Link the product to a recipient and a requirement set. A recipient is the retailer, distributor, or trading partner party record in CXH. Each recipient enforces a Registered Requirement Set: the attributes, image specs, and compliance rules that party requires. A product must be explicitly linked to both.

  1. Publish to target market. Once linked, publishing moves the product into a "Published Awaiting Subscription" state.

  1. Recipient subscription. Once a subscription request comes in from that recipient, the subscription moves to an Active state, CXH marks the publication status Synchronized, and the feed actually leaves CXH for the retailer's systems. If the recipient never subscribes, or subscribes against a different requirement set than the one you linked, the record can sit indefinitely in "Published Awaiting Subscription," with nothing reaching the storefront even though the product looks complete inside CXH.

How the data actually leaves CXH

Once subscribed, Syndigo moves content to recipients through a few different channels, and which one applies depends on the recipient, not on you:

  • Direct integration for retailers Syndigo already has an established connection with, feeding straight into the retailer's own ingestion systems with no manual upload step.
  • GDSN data pools, using GDSN CatalogItems and numeric target-market country codes (for example, 840 for the US), for recipients synchronizing via the Global Data Synchronization Network.
  • Custom exports, built and configured within CXH for regional or smaller recipients without robust syndication capabilities of their own.
  • Manual file transfer (an XML feed or CSV file) for recipients still on legacy, less-integrated intake processes.

Recipients also set their own cadence: some accept near-real-time updates, others batch weekly, so an attribute enriched in CXH this morning may not reach a batch-based recipient's PDP for days.

Where it renders — and why that's the retailer's call, not Syndigo's

Once content lands in the retailer's own systems, everything downstream, which attributes render as visible copy, filter facets, or hidden metadata, is the retailer's commerce platform's call, not Syndigo's. CXH's job ends at delivering a compliant, requirement-set-validated feed. A retailer might ingest twenty enriched attributes and surface only six in its template, use others purely for search filtering, or drop an image that misses spec even though the copy comes through fine. The requirement set defines what a retailer accepts, not what its page displays.

Where the handoff breaks (and how to keep it complete)

Most "our content isn't showing up" cases trace back to one of these:

  • Never linked. The product was enriched but never explicitly linked to the recipient and requirement set, so there's nothing to publish.
  • Stuck awaiting subscription. Publish succeeded, but the recipient hasn't subscribed, or subscribed against a different requirement set than the one you linked.
  • Vocabulary/mapping drift. Your attribute name maps to the wrong CXH attribute ID, or the requirement set expects a controlled value your data doesn't match, so the field fails validation and is dropped rather than published wrong.
  • Partial complex-attribute updates. Resending only part of a complex or container attribute replaces the whole thing, silently zeroing out data the recipient previously had.
  • Target market mismatch. A GDSN CatalogItem created for the wrong country code never reaches a retailer subscribed to a different market.
  • Asset spec rejection. Images or rich media that miss the recipient's dimension, format, or file-size spec get excluded even when core attributes pass.
  • Data quality gates. Many recipients score content before it's eligible to post live; a record can be "published" in CXH but held back by the retailer's own data-quality threshold.

The practical fix is usually the same: check publication/subscription status and the data-quality score for that recipient before assuming the content is wrong, and resend complex/container attributes in full, never as deltas.

How to validate

Confirming content reached the live page, not just CXH, takes a few checks:

  • Compare view-source against the rendered DOM on the retailer product page. If an attribute only appears in the rendered DOM, it's coming from client-side JavaScript, and a crawler or AI agent fetching raw HTML may not see it.
  • curl the live retailer PDP URL directly and search the response for the specific value you published, confirming what the server actually returns before client-side rendering.
  • If the retailer exposes schema.org/Product structured data, run the page through Google's Rich Results Test to confirm the enriched fields are represented in markup, not just visible copy.
  • In CXH itself, check the product's publication status for that recipient (Published Awaiting Subscription vs. Synchronized) and its data-quality score before escalating to the retailer.
